Ten Years Low: Committed Lowriders, the Run to Wildwood

Ten years is a long time to keep a car on the ground.

Springs cut. Wire wheels laced. Paint sprayed, sanded back, sprayed again. Plaques cast and earned, never bought. Committed Lowriders has been doing that in Melbourne since 2016, one build at a time, and this year the club turns ten.

I have been on the decks and behind the camera for the run-up. This is what it has looked like, and where it lands.

The run started at Open Hoist

Sunday 26 July, Heidelberg Heights. The lowrider edition of the Open Hoist Cars & Coffee was the first stop, and it set the tone for everything since. Candy paint and chrome on the street out front. Builds and bikes through the warehouse. The Haus of Birria feeding the block, me on the decks, and a custom lowrider pushbike handed to a kid who will not forget it.

That morning said what these meets are. Families. Kids on bikes. Builders standing next to ten years of their own work. Not a car show in the trade-fair sense. A room full of people who ride together.

Then 12 Volt Saturday. Then St Kilda.

The cars kept rolling. 12 Volt Saturday put the club in front of the audio and electrics crowd, the people who understand a build is finished on the inside as much as the outside. Father's Day at St Kilda put lowriders on the foreshore for families who had never seen one hop.

Three stops, three different crowds, one message. This culture is alive in Melbourne and it is open to anyone who turns up with respect.

17 October. Wildwood. Everyone.

The 10yr Anniversary Festival is Saturday 17 October 2026, 11am to 4pm, at 195 Gellies Road, Wildwood VIC. Entry is free. I am hosting.

Car show, bike show, push-bike show. Displays and trophies. Live DJs and local acts all day. Food trucks, stalls, kids' activities, giveaways.

And a special guest. Lil Eazy-E, son of Eazy-E, will be at the cars for a meet and greet. Lowriders and West Coast hip-hop have been in the same photograph since the beginning. On 17 October that photograph gets taken in Melbourne, with the club's cars in it.

Why it is being done this way

A tenth anniversary could be a members-only dinner. The club wanted the opposite.

Lowriding was always about family, patience and pride in the build. Those things are worth celebrating out loud, in the open, with the people who make the culture what it is. The builders. The old heads. The kids who will build the next ten years. The families who come for the food and stay for the hydraulics.

So bring your kids. Bring your parents. Bring the mate who has never been to a meet. Wildwood on 17 October is a party for a decade of life lived low and slow, and everybody is invited.
